World Equestian Games: After four years in planning, over two years in construction, and a year in selection trials (for some countries), the 2010 Alltech® FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) is set to take place September 25- October 10 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The Reining portion is scheduled for September 25–30. At this time, 112 riders from 29 countries are expected to compete in Reining with Medals being awarded in both team and individual competition. NRHA Announces World Championship Shootout: Reining enthusiasts – make plans to be in Oklahoma City on Thursday, December 2 for the $100,000 added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) World Championship Shootout. The Shootout is the largest added money NRHA-approved class in the world and is scheduled during the NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show. In addition to crowning the Shootout champion, NRHA will honor the 2010 NRHA Open World Champion at the show in front of the largest live Reining audience in the world.
The $100,000 added Shootout is an “Open to the World” class where the top Open reining horses on the planet may compete in a dramatic showdown for the winner’s estimated purse of $30,000. In addition, the 2010 NRHA Open World Champion will be recognized and honored at the show – even though the World Champion and the Shootout winner may not be the same.

. General Interest News.
Added Money Doubles At NAAC: Good news for 2010 Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) qualifiers – you’ll have more than twice as much money to run at this year! The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Board of Directors approved a 111% increase in added money in eight NAAC classes. There will now be nearly $30,000 in added money at the event. Please see the NRHA website for individual class added money.
Adequan® NAAC qualifiers are determined at eleven NRHA North American Regional Affiliate Finals (RAF) held in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. 15 classes are held at each U.S. and Canadian RAF with the top eight horses and riders qualifying for the NAAC. The NAAC is hosted at the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City. This year’s event is scheduled for November 25 – December 4 and includes the prestigious NAAC Top Region Award Contest.
Year-End Awards Qualifying Changes: RMRHA has instituted a program whereby members who wish to qualify for year-end awards are required to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours in support of the association. This volunteer program was developed in an effort to get members more involved in RMRHA.
In order to be eligible for a year-end award, each rider will need to:
- Volunteer at least 4 hours at a RMRHA sanctioned activity or event.
- Complete a Volunteer Form and submit it to the program administrator.
- Riders who have not met the volunteer hours requirement may become eligible for year-end awards in exchange for a contribution of $100.
- For youth riders to be eligible for year-end awards in any division, he/she must meet the requirements outlined in the Youth Year-End Awards program.
Please click here for full program details and the Volunteer Form
RMRHA Sponsorship: A primary focus of the board this year and last year has been generating more sponsorships. In 2009 Linda Hitt
chaired the sponsorship committee and was very successful with several of the programs she championed. Even with this great
effort there has been a shortage of sponsors. Last October your board voted to contract with Mecate Group to represent RMRHA
in generating a corporate level sponsorship program as well as providing a contact for building strong positive relations with our
sponsors. Our Mecate representative is Jim Gordon, and he will be working closely with the RMRHA board and Sponsorship
committee to achieve these goals.
RMRHA Committees: The board has established a set of committees to oversee various aspects of the day-to-day operations of RMRHA. Please see the Committee List for a complete listing of these committees. They can always use more help. If you are interested in serving on one of these committees, please contact the committee chairperson.
Applications/Transfers Processed At NRHA Shows: Beginning this year, NRHA approved shows can process competition license
applications and transfers. NRHA membership and Non Pro applications
can also be processed at NRHA shows. Visit the NRHA website for complete
information about these new services.
WSRHA Shows - Youth Classes: The organizers of the WSRHA shows offer two slates of youth classes. For affiliate and year-end qualifying purposes for RMRHA, only the first slate of classes will count for points for RMRHA.
NRHA Service: RMRHA member Guy Vernon is one of your elected regional directors serving on the Board of Directors for NRHA. Shane Brown is Vice-Chairman of the NRHA Professionals Commitee. Cathy Irvin is serving on the NRHA Affiliate Committee. Gary Pipkin is a member of the Bylaws Committee and Dori Schwartzenberger is Vice-Chairman of the Judges Committee. RMRHA members are encouraged to contact Guy, Shane, Cathy, Gary or Dori with any comments or suggestions you have for NRHA.
